A new bag from Balenciaga’s Spring Summer 2017 Collection is hitting the stores real soon and we couldn’t stop talking about it! Without further ado, here is the Balenciaga Blanket Square Bag – a complete new style.

A bag that brings out unconventionality and simplicity at its finest, this Blanket Square Bag if you wonder actually took its inspiration from comfy comforters. For everyone’s information, this bag comes in two versions that you can choose from: a smooth leather version and a diamond quilted version. And yes, it’s the very first time that Balenciaga took a leap of faith in trying diamond quilting for the first time.

If you look closer, you’ll notice that it has a side tag with embossed gold Balenciaga logo for an added flair. It also has large eyelets at the handle’s base and features handles and a removable and adjustable strap for shoulder and cross body carrying.

As for compartments, worry not for it features a zip opening on one side, 2 compartments inside, 2 zip pockets and 1 patch pocket inside. The small size measures 24 x 19 x 11 (W x H x D) cm and is priced $1515 USD, €1195 euro, $1645 SGD, £965 GBP, $2315 AUD, ¥165000 JPY via MyTheresa.

Balenciaga F/W16 Bazar Shopper

Other Brands

I believed I’ve officially lost it. Like seriously flipped out, gone bonkers and lost all my marbles along the way too. Why? Because instead of being extremely incensed that this joke of a bag is being passed off as a luxury item, instead of mocking its very existence since plastic versions of it gone for less than a dollar here in Asia, instead of questioning why a revered brand like Balenciaga would even deign it fit to sit on their store shelves, funnily enough, I want it for myself. There, I said it.

Maybe I’m loving the extreme irony of it all, that such a lowly item in the natural order of bags should be remade into something as precious as lambskin leather. Or maybe I’m just sick of everything else that’s currently on the market that’s either an icon (because you can keep selling that same bag over and over again), that’s all the same (hey, let’s do another mini bag because everyone else is doing it!) or that’s a safe, editor-approved bag guaranteed to make their best-of-FW16 list for sure.

Then again, my obsession with Balenciaga’s Bazar Shopper can’t be explained at all, and I just made everything up just to justify buying the one in Medium the measures 37 cm by 37 cm (shown above) that I’m also assuming will fit comfortably over my shoulder given its generous strap drop. There’s also one in Large but no details have been released on that yet, while the Small (29 cm by 28) will come with an additional shoulder sling as well.

Finished with shiny palladium hardware and embossed with the smallest Balenciaga logo ever on the front in gold, I’m even ok with paying USD1520 for the Made in Italytote in Medium, which if I’m not wrong, is still cheaper than the one Louis Vuitton did (yes, they offered something like this too) back when Marc Jacobs was still their Creative Director.

Thankfully (or not), the Bazar Shopper isn’t available to be purchased yet, though you can pre-order it first via Balenciaga online. Which means I’ll still have time to ponder really hard regarding wanting something that doesn’t make any sense. Then again, it’s just a bag. If we all really wanted to make any sense, we would all be content with just one bag each because how many bags do we really need anyway

Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2016 Collection Channels Vetements

Although not exactly designed by Demna Gvasalia himself, the newestBalenciaga pre-fall 2016 collection somehow exudes some strong anti-fashion vibes typical of Vetements, not only making us wonder what’s really going on with the fashion house, but also confirming once again that a fashion revolution is floating in the air, indeed. Despite the official statement that the collection was designed by Balenciaga’s in-house team in the interim of Alexander Wang’s departure and Demna Gvasalia’s appointment, this line-up clearly speaks through the clothes, and we can’t help but translate their words into Vetements.

Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2016 Collection

Officially unveiled a few hours ago online, the Balenciaga pre-fall 2016 lookbook features models Stella Tennant, Julia Nobis and Marland Backus, who also walked for the house’s latest fashion shows. Besides flawlessly showcasing all of the proposals, Tennat, Nobis and Backus also managed to personify the line-up’s urban attitude like no one else could before, even putting into emotions Gvasalia’s notorious androgynous style and overall genderless approach to fashion. Throughout their poses (and thanks to the mysterious photographer who captured them), the three talented models also seem to be celebrating Balenciaga’s heritage, namely that of Nicolas Ghesquière.

This collection appears like a well-served combination of both Gvasalia’s and Ghesquière’s influences, as if those at the fashion house’s headquarters wanted to embrace Balenciaga’s glorious past while also subtly giving us a glimpse of its future. Thus each ensemble mixes elements characteristic of both the designers, such as Ghesquière’s sculptural tailoring and sharp aesthetics, and Gvasalia’s street-style allure and oversized silhouettes.

As for the designers’ mutual passion for innovative and ultra-modern materials, the collection fully meets our expectations with its metallic, sleek and furry fabrics, almost looking as if Ghesquière’s pieces were reinterpreted through Gvasalia’s eyes. The collection contains a lot of tailored jackets and coats, relaxed pants and peplum cuts, while also focusing on single revival pieces that are just to die for.

Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2016 Collection

As soon as Balenciaga unveiled its lookbook, most of its international fans couldn’t help but notice a specific shearling aviator jacket, which seemed to be designed by Nicolas Gesquière himself. On the other hand, street-style-inspired detailing such as Balenciaga’s logo branded on the shearling collars and scarves clearly drive us back to the whole Gvasalia-involved speculations, not to mention the oversized hoodies, deconstructed skirts and cropped pants, and especially the floral prints Vetements often channels.

Vichy-check patterns and the few shocking colors inevitably still remind us of Gvasalia too, while the thigh-high sleek boots clearly jutted out from Vetements’ latest shows. Is Balenciaga approaching and dipping into Vetements’ fashion philosophy? We will probably find out the answer in the fashion house’s next collections.

Balenciaga Frame Leather Clutch: Frame-Changer

Balenciaga Frame Leather Clutch

Leave it to Alexander Wang to rethink and revamp the way a frame bag should look. I love the level of ingenuity and original design at play. The silver bar looks crazy-modern, while Balenciaga’s bicycle-inspired theme continues, with a polished roller chain serving as the top-handle strap.

But if this is meant to be a bag in my real life, I have to say there is ultimately a little something lacking. Comprised of three slim compartments, the double layer of leather is folded over and stays open, but closing with snaps, it looks unfinished and precarious. This is one of those great concept bags. I love the way the frame only partially adorns the bag, leaving an intriguing amount of negative space. I just want to see the leather folds be tighter, neater, and more structured altogether. Finally, the color is not to be ignored. This pale pink is to die for; it’s the perfect spring shade. Balenciaga Frame
