This prototype watch is the most expensive Rolex Submariner ever sold

Jewelry & Watches

At Christie’s recently held “A Rolex Afternoon” sale in Geneva, Switzerland, an extremely rare white gold Rolex Submariner was auctioned for a whopping $628,572 USD, making it the most expensive Submariner ever sold publically. The watch is a prototype white gold Submariner from the early 1970s and only three examples are known to exist. While the rare watch doesn’t have a serial number, it is confirmed to be genuine and produced from Rolex‘s factory. It has been with the same private collector for more than 30 years. Being ultra-rare, the prototype Submariner had gathered a lot of attention before the auction and went on to fetch roughly 25 percent more than the estimated value.

The watch has white gold case with a dive bezel with strange knurling on two opposing sections. The solid white gold bracelet has an interesting bark finish and the faded blue dial features yellow gold markers and hands. The former record-holding Submariner was sold for $568,561 USD in November 2016 at the Phillips Geneva Watch Auction.

Chanel Boyfriend Black Dial Steel Tweed Collection

Jewelry & Watches

IMAGE: CHANEL

Mention tweed and Chanel immediately comes to mind. It was, after all, Coco Chanel who introduced the seriously proper, thick woven woolly fabric that was once the reserve of English gentlemen to the wardrobes of fashionable women in Paris. Today you’ll see the fabric extensively on Chanel’s signature jackets, on their bags, and there was even a season when tweed appeared on the sneakers that were the talk of the town.

Taking it a step even further, and further reinforcing the importance of tweed to the French luxury house, you’ll also find tweed on the latest selection of Boyfriendtimepieces from Chanel. Not the actual fabric of course, but an interpretation of tweed, the watch’s bracelet composed of spun steel wires that are interwoven and then stamped with a tweed pattern.

The end result? Another beautiful timepiece from Chanel Horlogerie, with a bracelet that not only looks like tweed, but will also sit most comfortably as it adjusts to the natural contours of your wrist. Available in 2 sizes, the larger MM (26.7 mm by 34.6 mm) and the smaller PM (21.5 mm by 27.9 mm), both of which will come with refined steel cases set atop jet black watch dials. For those, however, who prefer a little more bling, there’s the one that comes with a full diamond bezel for maximum brilliance.

Now available at the Chanel Fine Jewellery Boutique located within Ngee Ann City, prices start from SGD6500 for the one in PM with the full steel case.

The Métiers d’Art Elégance Sartoriale line comprises of five different styles, each with its unique pattern. These include the Prince of Wales check that is presented on raspberry red enamel, the herringbone motif on a lavender-toned enamel, the windowpane pattern on warm grey, the pin stripes on a touch of soft linen and the tartan motif with the criss-crosses on a sea of cerulean blue.

Each nook and corner of the timepiece reflects the craftsmanship of a tailor and a watchmaker alike. The latter imitating the design sensibilities of the former.

The Harry Winston Histoire de Tourbillion 7 offers two bi-axial Tourbillions

Jewelry & Watches

It’s been seven consistent years of inspiring releases by Harry Winston, surprising us with the brand’s high-quality watchmaking abilities. The Histoire de Tourbillion 7 joins the league of superior timepieces with two bi-axis Tourbillions to challenge high complications with svelteness. Formerly, the brand has explored bi-axial, tri-axial and coupled carousels. But this time we have a pair of Tourbillions that rhythmically tell you the time and more. It comes in a 50 mm case that is rimmed by a polished bezel.

The hour and minute hands are situated on a pyramid-like elevation at the right. The perspective of this section makes the hour markers seem three dimensional. This is extended with a red aluminum or anthracite strip that is perforated. The pair of bi-axial tourbillions are present on the left. The cage of the first tourbillion moves into the cage of the second to move the escapements mesmerizingly. Both tourbillions are identical in structure and speed but have their distinct behavior. At the bottom of the dial is a rolling power reserve indicator that offers up to 55 hours. This, with the dancing tourbillions makes for quite a sight.

The Harry Winston Histoire de Tourbillion uses a spherical differential to optimize performance. Only 20 examples of this legendary timepiece will be released. 10 in red aluminum and 10 in anthracite.

Tiffany & Co. Infinity Collection

Jewelry & Watches

IMAGE: TIFFANY & CO.

Everyone wants their love to last a lifetime, and there are those like me who believe in ‘forever and a day’. Which is in essence the premise of Tiffany & Co.’s new Infinitycollection, employing the symbol of infinity first introduced in 1655 but with its roots in ancient Greek and Indian civilisations.

Given an update by Design Director Francesca Amfitheatrof, the Infinity collection now comes in precious golds and adorned with brilliant round diamonds on a single ∞ (that’s just known as the Cuff), or with two ∞ (that’s the Double Cuff) in 18K rose, white or yellow gold.

And because it wouldn’t be a full jewellery collection without the matching accompaniments, you’ll also find long necklaces and diamond-pave rings, the first most fittingly called the Endless necklace, the latter powerful symbols of forever that will sit most beautifully on your fingers.

IMAGE: TIFFANY & CO.

Last, but by no means least, the ones I’m loving the most, which also come in precious golds sans the sparkly diamonds for a more masculine finish, all manner of cuffs that come in the 3 different golds or a combination of both sterling silver and rose gold like the Double Cuff that’s shown above. Then there are also pieces that come completely in sterling silver only, for those a little more wallet-conscious, because at Tiffany & Co., love should be for everyone (and also last a lifetime) regardless of how much one can spend.
