“Fighting evil by moonlight,
Winning love by daylight,
Never running from a real fight!
She is the one named Sailor Moon!”

These lyrics come in the background as soon as we are writing a review about this gorgeous red colored shoulder bag.

Can we tell you how much we are digging this bag? Its one-of-a-kind beauty reminds us of the good old days of Sailor Moon and the Girls. Yes, we are 100% certain that Sailor Moon will be wearing this gem as soon as she lays her eyes on Gucci’s Leather Bow and Pearl Bag.

Well, why did we think of Sailor Moon? It’s quite obvious that the red color and the metal bow and glass pearls are reminiscent of the hype that this Japanese manga series brought not too long ago (by that we mean decades ago).

Moving on to the bag, we couldn’t help but admire its hibiscus red leather. Ladies remember that you can never go wrong with red! It also features an interior open pocket, a gold toned metal bow with glass pearl detail and glass pearl studs and gold toned studs, antiqued gold toned hardware and a sliding chain strap that can be worn as a shoulder strap or as a top handle.

It measures 8 x 5.5 x 2.5 (W x H x D) inches and is priced $1850 USD via Gucci store.

Have we ever had a serious conversation about the Hermes Medor Clutch Bag?

No?

Then perhaps it’s about time.

It’s one of Hermes’s Classics and even Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Victoria Beckham are carrying it. This clutch is absolutely qualified to be your evening companion; it will help you steal the lights and the night.

A simple clutch with beautiful curvy shape. You can grab the Hermes Medor Clutch Bag with one hand. The front is made with a sophisticated clasp. It’s designed with four gorgeous studs on it.

The bag opens and closes with the front leather strap. The interior is made with one large compartment for all the evening essentials (obvious!) and there is an extra pocket for other items like your credit cards.

For those that are interested, the Hermes Medor Clutch Bag is available in two sizes:

Hermes Medor 23 Clutch Bag
Size: 23 x 11 x 5 in cm (W x H x D)
Price in Tadelakt: $5300 USD

Hermes Medor 29 Clutch Bag
Size: 29 x 15 x 5 in cm (W x H x D)

The larger size 29 has been discontinued for some time, the only way to get it is through resellers.

The one on the top is crafted from smooth mississippiensis alligator leather and is priced at $20600 USD. But the Hermes Medor Clutch Bag is also available in calfskin or in gold and silver hardware.

Mulberry Alexa: The End Of An Era?

Other Brands

IMAGE: MULBERRY

If the chatter on the internet is to be believed (and coupled with the fact that if you check out Mulberry’s online site you’ll only see 3 bags left), the days of the Alexa are numbered. Once the most sought-after of all bags ever made by the British accessories house during the tenure of then Creative Director Emma Hill, it was all I ever blogged about back in 2009 when it first came out, and it was all you guys ever asked about.

There was the Alexa in soft buffalo leather, which was then followed by variations in metallic leathers, tweed-embossed leather and even one which came in leopard prints. They made it big, they made it small, they made so many versions of it but nothing beat the original one in Oak leather that was priced at just GBP750 way, way, way back then.

Along the way, the IT bag became irrelevant, mainly because prices literally skyrocketed overnight after Mulberry decided that it had to aspire to be a luxurious leather house with equally eye-watering prices to match, and things took a turn for the worse, with Emma Hill’s departure happening soon after.

Today, under the tenure of current Creative Director Johnny Coca, it would make sense to discontinue the bag altogether since it a) wasn’t his creation to begin with and more likely, b) to align with his new vision for the brand. And it’s telling that the bag’s run will end soon, especially when a quick check online reveals only 3 styles left. Only the originals in Oak and Black are left and priced at GBP1100 each, with a third in woven raffia leather going for GBP1250. Nothing else is left, no mini bags, no oversized pieces, no wallets, nada, zilch, finito.

Which begs the question. While it is understandable for Mr Coca to do as he pleases since he is the one who will set the new creative direction, could it be a case of too fast, too soon? Or are you happy that it’s going to go on to bag heaven aka the deepest nether regions of your bag cupboard where all the discontinued/forgotten bags go to live out the rest of their lives? And if you have always wanted one but haven’t gotten around to buying one, would you do it now?
